Module 1: Introduction to Industrial Health & Safety: Definition and scope of industrial health and safety, Importance of occupational safety in industries, Common industrial hazards and risks, Evolution and objectives of health and safety legislation, Safety terminologies and concepts, Duties and responsibilities of safety officers, Health and safety policies and procedures, Industrial accident case studies, Benefits of implementing safety management systems, Safety culture and employee involvement.
Module 2: Occupational Health and Hygiene: Workplace health hazards and control measures, Noise, vibration, and radiation exposure, Monitoring of air quality and ventilation, Industrial hygiene principles, Occupational diseases and prevention, Medical surveillance and health check-ups, Ergonomics and manual handling risks, Heat stress and thermal comfort, Workplace stress and mental health, Role of occupational health professionals.
Module 3: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA): Types of hazards (chemical, physical, mechanical, biological), Risk assessment process and matrix, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Implementation of control measures, Incident and near-miss reporting, Documentation and recordkeeping, Risk control hierarchy, Case examples of industrial risk management.
Module 4: Safety Management Systems and Audits: Structure of safety management systems (SMS), ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001 overview, Elements of an effective SMS, Planning and implementing safety audits, Internal and external safety inspections, Safety performance monitoring and KPIs, Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), Safety documentation and compliance, Role of safety committees, Continuous improvement in safety practices.
Module 5: Fire, Chemical, and Electrical Safety: Fire triangle and fire prevention methods, Firefighting equipment and training, Handling and storage of hazardous chemicals, Chemical Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Labeling and signage standards, Electrical hazard identification and protection, Safe work practices for electrical maintenance, Use of PPE and lockout-tagout (LOTO), Emergency procedures and rescue operations, First aid for fire and electrical injuries.
Module 6: Legal Framework and Emergency Preparedness: Factories Act and health & safety provisions, Environment (Protection) Act and related rules, Safety compliance and penalties, Emergency response planning (ERP), Mock drills and evacuation procedures, Incident command structure, Roles of safety inspectors and enforcement bodies, Legal reporting and documentation, Contractor and visitor safety management, Building a resilient safety system.
