Introduction to Wood Carving: Introduction, woods, tools, and sharpening, indenting and stamping, cutting grooves with a gouge, cutting out a flat panel with a ground, carving in the round, making moulds or squeezes for wood carvers.

Materials and Tools: Hammer, working of important tools, grinding and sharpening of tools, manufactured woods, wood screws, tips for correct wood working, glazed doors, wire gauge shutters, procedure for fixing door shutters, general arrangement, slope roof and false ceiling.

Techniques and Methods: Tools, sharpening stones mallet and bench, woods used for carving, sharpening the tools, the grain of the wood, hardwood carving.

Design Essentials: Material properties, structural wood panels, lumber design values, floor framing, wall framing, roofs, conventional roof framing, roof trusses, gable- end wall bracing, LFRS design steps and terminology.

Wood Science: Wood science, construction and joinery production, veneers and plywood, particleboards and fibre boards, sawmilling and timber production, wood working machines and tools.

Wood Carving Finishing: Preparing the wood surface, tools for applying finishes, oil finishes, staining wood, varnish, water- based finishes, caring for the finish, repairing finishes, finishing different woods.
