Introduction to Surveying: Types of surveying, different methods of surveying, procedure of chaining, angle measuring, polar coordinates, how satellite distance is measured, the principles of GPS, differential leveling.
Use of Global Positioning System (GPS): Sources of GPS error, GPS terminology, national interests and stakeholders in GPS policy, national and international interests in GPS, commercial GPS markets, potential changes to civil GPS services.
Map Preparation: History and definition of maps, classification of maps, scale and types of scale, classification of projection, definition of chloropleth, daysimetric and isopleths maps, class interval selection and shading, demographic and statistical mapping, sequential maps, map production, map printing, colors and visualization, map reproduction printing soft copies and standards.
Total Station Surveying: Types of survey, basic components of total station, data processing, electronic book, advantages of using total stations, the total station, preparing to measure, measuring with the total station, instrument errors, simple surveying tasks, applications programs.
