Syllabus
Introduction to Carpentry: Marking and measuring tools, cutting tools, planning tools, striking tools, setting tools and sharpening tools.
Cost Estimation: Direct costs, types of cost estimates, methods for estimating capital investment, methods of profitability evaluation, methods of profitability evaluation.
Joints in Carpentry work and Finishing: Using joints, basic butt joint, rabbet, half-lap joint, finger joint, dovetail and box joints, box joint, groove joint, mortise and tenon joint, biscuit joint, making strong wood connection.
Wood Technology: Wood science, construction and joinery production, sawmilling and timber production, woodworking machine and tools.
Basic Drawing and Calculations: Drawing instruments, drafting templates/stencils, layout of drawing sheets, geometric construction, detail plan and cross-section, rivets and riveted joints, center to centre distance of track, typical reinforcement details of common elements, water tanks over ground, waiting areas and lounges, the thickness of casing / carrier pipe in different cases, bottom up approach, material modification.
Carpentry Tools Nails Screws and Other Materials: Introduction, measuring tools, tenon or back saw, types of welding, making a flat chisel, measurement of thickness of sheets, sheet metal operations, the principle of lathe, types of sand used in mouldes, casting processes.
