Library Methods and Techniques: Meaning of research, motivation in research, types of research, technique involved in defining a problem, important concepts relating to research design, technique of developing measurement tools, difference between questionnaires and schedules, some fundamental definitions, basic concepts concerning testing of hypotheses, important methods of factor analysis, precaution in interpretation.
Library Management: University libraries, library rules, modes of book selection, purchase of books and non book materials, cataloguing, inter library loan service, photo copying/ printing service, procedure for library usage analysis.
Library Classification Theory and Practice: Introduction, the purpose and effects of classification, the history of library classification, the expansive classification, the universal decimal classification, the subject classification, the rules of classing books, the classified catalogue.
Library Cataloguing: Introduction, library classification, need and purpose, Dewey decimal classification, international society for knowledge organization, role of computers, concept of call number, definition of library catalogue, functions and forms of catalogue, card book catalogue, computerized and online (OPAC) catalogues, arrangement of entries of dictionary and classified catalogue, descriptive, cataloguing, development of catalogue codes.
Information Services: Introduction, need for information, library services, basic or essential services, need for other desirable services, type of library and the services offered.
Laws of Library Sciences: Introduction, objectives, the five laws of library science, new insights and wider interpretation of five laws.
