Syllabus
Introduction to Industrial Automation: Introduction, impacts of automation, advantages and disadvantages of automation, automation principles and strategies, automation migration strategy, low-cost automation, types of automation, automation of manufacturing system, fixed automation, programmable automation.
Industrial Instrumentation: Measurement of temperature, measurement of pressure, measurement of flow, level, measurement of speed, force, torque acceleration, measurement of density, viscosity, humidity.
Industrial Power Electronics: Power semiconductor devices, converters, inverters & choppers, DC drives, induction motor drives.
Microcontrollers and Embedded System Design: Introduction, logical statements, microcontrollers and the Arduino IDE, electricity and basic electronic components, mechanical switches and switch debouncing, analog to digital conversion (ADC).
PLC Fundamentals: Ladder diagram fundamentals, the programmable logic controller, fundamental PLC programming, advanced programming techniques, mnemonic programming code, encoders transducers and advanced sensors, motor controls, system integrity and safety.
Process Control: Introduction, industrial process, types of process- operational, types of automation system, need of process computers, layers/levels of an automation system, data acquisition system, electromagnetic control relays.
