Syllabus
Introduction to Hydroponic Technology: Nutrient solutions for hydroponic systems, the use of hydroponics in a biotic stress tolerance research, auto toxicity in vegetables and ornamentals and its control, hydroponics and environmental clean-up.
Soil Requirements: Introduction, essentials of soil fertility, food quality, nutrient requirements, soil nutrient supply, unprocessed residues, compost, other organic fertilizers.
Pests and Diseases: Introduction, nursery diseases, agro forestry and plantation diseases, insect pests of nurseries and their management, insect pests of agro forestry and plantation species.
Temperature: Hot and cold, transfer of heat, effects of heat, heat and work, temperature and the particulate nature of matter, some remarkable devices.
Light, Artificial light, light balancers: History, environment, modelling, sunlight effect, importance of view, windows, roof lights, innovative day lighting systems, artificial light, natural lighting, roof lights.
Nutrient formulae, Preparing Solutions: Water quality and analyses, from analytical methods to target values, calculations on analytical findings, nutrient content of fertilisers, fertiliser recipe calculation.
