Objective: The Certified Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Specialist course is designed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills to proactively manage workplace hazards. The course covers types of hazards (physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychosocial), methods of hazard identification (inspections, checklists, observation, worker input), and structured risk assessment techniques such as qualitative, semi-quantitative, and quantitative approaches.

Duration: Three Month.

Module 1: Introduction to Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA): Definition and objectives of HIRA, Importance of HIRA in proactive safety management, Legal and regulatory requirements (OSHA, ISO 45001, IS 14489), Key terms: hazard, risk, incident, accident, risk assessment, Role and responsibilities of a HIRA Specialist, Integration of HIRA into organizational safety systems.

Module 2: Types of Hazards and Their Classifications: Physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, psychosocial, and mechanical hazards, Workplace-specific hazard identification (manufacturing, construction, laboratories, etc.), Acute vs. chronic hazards and their implications, Sources of hazard information: MSDS, past incidents, inspections, Hazard recognition techniques (walkthroughs, checklists, worker inputs), Hazard categorization based on severity and exposure.

Module 3: Risk Assessment Methodologies and Tools: Stages of risk assessment: hazard identification, risk evaluation, control, and review, Risk assessment matrices: likelihood vs. severity, Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment techniques, Tools and models: HAZOP, FMEA, JSA, What-if analysis, Criteria for assessing tolerable and unacceptable risk levels, Limitations and challenges in risk assessment practices.
